The Federation of Hungarian Printers and Paper Makers has awarded Mr György Gyergyák, general manager of State Printing House Plc a life achievement award on 23 February 2008. The award ’For the Hungarian Printing Industry’ was given for the 10th time this year as a salute of the industry to its outstanding professionals.

Members of the industry nominate the leading professionals every year for the Printer’s Association’s life achievement award, the presidency of the Association chooses the winner from among them. The presidency announced György Gyergyák, general manager of State Printing House Plc as the winner of the award from among seven nominees. The primary reason for the recognition was the four decade professional experience of Mr Gyergyák when not only did he earn the respect of colleagues but he contributed significantly to the development of the Hungarian printing industry with his work. His activities in developing printing technologies like card production, his professional organising efforts and among others his achievements during the introduction of State Printing House Plc to the Budapest Stock Exchange all contributed to the winning of the award.

Short curriculum vitae of György Gyergyák

György Gyergyák has gained experience in almost all territories of the printing industry from colour periodical printing to security documents. Between 1967 and 1983 he worked at Athenaeum Printing House first as a worker, later as a foreman, in 1983 he was appointed to the position of sales manager. In between he obtained the degree of light industry production engineer in 1977 which was followed by the degree of light industry economic engineer in 1987.

From 1985 he worked at Számítástechnikai Ügyvitelszervező Vállalat (SZÜV) Printing House as a deputy director fro almost a decade. He gained management experience at Hungary’s largest business form producer of that time then he worked at State Printing House as a general manager from 1994 which was already privatised at that time.

As a general manager, he had key role in adjusting the Company’s product and service portfolio. During his management, the Company launched the production of such special printing products and the application of such printing technologies like card based documents, bank cards with chip, or radiofrequency identification. As a result of all these, the sales revenue of Állami Nyomda Group has increased from the HUF 670 million seen in 1993 to over HUF 14 billion in 2006.

He introduced the company into the Budapest Stock Exchange in December 2005 and the company founded its Romanian, Bulgarian and Slovakian subsidiaries and joint ventures in recent years. During his management, State Printing House Plc became a security printing industry market player with the second largest sales revenue in the Central-Eastern Europe region.
